Manual Soft-Tissue Therapy for Infertility

The desire to get pregnant isn’t an easy journey for all couples. In fact, for 1 in 8, getting and staying pregnant is met with challenges such as infertility and miscarriage.

But if you’re struggling with infertility or miscarriages you may not know that pelvic physical therapy can support a different, more desirable path toward conception and a full term pregnancy.

This is known as manual soft-tissue therapy, a form of manual therapy intervention that can improve the body’s ability to conceive.

But how do you know if you should receive manual physical therapy interventions, such as soft tissue therapy?

If you have a history of:

  • excruciating periods
  • irregular cycles
  • bowel health issues like IBS
  • digestive issues such as GI
  • hormone imbalances like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • abdominal adhesions
  • history of endometriosis or surgery

…then you may have increased tension around the upper and lower abdominal cavity, restrictions that affect normal blood flow and supply, and tightened fascia.

It’s important to assess with a pelvic health professional if your infertility could be related to what’s described above, known as “mechanical” issues that affect your body’s ability to become pregnant.

Manual soft-tissue therapy performed by a pelvic physical therapist is specifically designed to

  1. create space & opening
  2. restore mobility and motility to reproductive functions.
  3. alignment to support normal and healthy blood flow for sperm to flow through efficiently.

This innovative manual therapy intervention has had success with women dealing with the adhesions described above.

I help women and children live their life to the fullest, without worrying about pelvic floor pain, peeing while sneezing, or difficulty pooping. When not at the office, I like to play board games with my kids, binge-watch Netflix with hubby, and travel outside of the AZ heat.
